Local judges

A local judge just blocked Governor Ron DeSantis’ 15 week abortion bill. Every time I go to vote I educate myself on the state and federal senators and representatives however it is extremely difficult to know in a quick glance how to vote for judges who align with our opinions. Is there a website somewhere that we can get a quick view? I now realize how important local politics is and I extremely appreciate Governor DeSantis I would vote for him anytime in a heartbeat because he did such a great job during the lockdowns. Even us lefties love him in Florida. He is the only Republican that I would choose to vote for. Thank you in advance and I adore you guys!

Roe will have an impact on the elections

I know everyone thinks that Roe would not have that big of an impact on the election however I think everyone underestimates how powerful this ruling is. . I believe that the average American cares deeply about this topic. In fact I would argue this really isn’t about abortion for 2 of the 3 sides to the issue. 1 group, the majority, trust women to make the decision. That is the unified portion that we call Pro Choice. The 2 side are the Brett Kavanaughs of the world where they legimately see this as a States Right issue. Then third side which is the 13% of the country or known as the pro life crowd. 2 of the three sides are not unified with each other cause they see the issue differently where the pro choice crowd is in an agreement with each other. For the first time in my life I will vote for a Democrat. In fact the Republicans made my choice easy. I will vote all Democrats. I would rather risk shitty economics and, MAYBE, horrifying late term abortions than taking a women’s right to choose. I also think that this ruling will cause more horrifying late term abortions. I guess I see this as a freedom issue and when you give away a freedom you never get it back. I don’t know what do you guys think?

The Constitution

If you could erase anything from the U.S. Constitution, effective immediately, what would it be?

What should SCOTUS do/have done?

Hi Krystal and Saagar, My questions are in response to Krystal’s piece on Tuesday (6/28) regarding SCOTUS in which you did a good job arguing that the idealized function of SCOTUS is to protect the minority from the whims of the majority, but currently it is a political weapon of last resort used to enshrine political victories that would not be possible at the ballot box. I think I agree, but isn’t that what the SCOTUS was doing when they ruled on Roe v Wade in 1973? I’m genuinely asking, because my source on that is a conservative evangelical, which I believed to be credible, but if Saagar didn’t mention that in his response, I’m not so sure. If so, is this a case of one court correcting the error of another, or do two wrongs not make a right? Also, should SCOTUS protect a gun owning minority from the whims of a majority enraged by gun violence, or is it justified to pass on anti-gun legislation in the name of public safety? Finally, aren’t justices ideally supposed to be impartial and apolitical, ruling based on the law and the facts of a case, and not their personal ideology or feelings? If that’s the goal, why is it appropriate to ask them how they will rule before they take office, and isn’t that an available excuse for them to rule against how they said they would? Thanks for reading if not answering any or all of these questions, and if you don’t have the time or patience, no worries. You guys rock, are killing it, and deserve every bit of your great success. Look forward to seeing you live if you can make it out to Southern California before the Road Warrior Apocalypse. -Lew

Uranium Mining for Nuclear Power

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the show has taken a deep dive into the cost/benefit of Nuclear energy production. I don’t think either of you have explored the cost/benefit of uranium mining necessary for nuclear power. I’m hoping you can address that too since from what little I know that has resulted in worker deaths and environmental degradation. Thank you always for your good faith analysis of these issues.
