I understand that some of the media in Canada have been hyperbolic about the Truck Convoy, but to say it is repulsive is hyperbolic and ludicrous considering what American media is like! What I didn't expect is to see YOUR coverage of the Truck Convoy be just as bad as traditional/cable media. The reality of the convoy is that it has been hijacked by right wing extremists. Only one of the three so-called organizers is a trucker. One is a well known rabid anti-vaxxer not a trucker. Another is a total nut who wants Trudeau locked up and has asked for the Governor-General of Canada to dissolve the current government, again not a trucker. These are actually their demands. They are members of the unsuitably named People's Party of Canada. A group of disgruntled folks who think the Conservative Party of Canada is not right wing enough. They are led by a very wealthy man, Maxine Bernier, a failed leadership candidate for the Conservative Party. These people are the Q-anon wing of the Conservative Party. They conflate what is happening in the US with Canadian issues. The truck protest had security increased because the Sons of Odin, a prominent white supremacist, Nazi organization put out calls for Nazis to attend the protest and overthrow the Trudeau government. There were several Nazi flags, not just one, in the crowd. People from this group have pissed and danced on Tomb for the Unknown soldier in Ottawa and other memorials. Most truckers have condemned this protest and want nothing to do with it. Their issue has been hijacked and as a result will probably not get the hearing it deserves. Regarding the pandemic; yes most people are sick and tired of the restrictions and want their old lives back. I want my old life back, too. I miss going to clubs, concerts, movies, etc but I don't want it back at the expense of other people's lives. This is what both of you always seem to leave out of your commentary. Three thousand people a day are dying from Omicron in the US EVERY DAY. It is 300 people per day in Canada. Doesn't that mean anything to either of you? 75% of the people dying are unvaccinated. The vaccinated do get sick but it is not as serious and they are not dying. I don't want to see the unvaccinated die no matter how taken in by misinformation they are. I don't wish for anyone's death. That's why I support the restrictions, which by the way are generally no more restrictive that many states in the US. Canadians don't want American style thug, bought-and-paid for democracy where the election industries go on for years virtually none stop. I know Americans are very proud of their so-called democracy but lets face it, you may have constant never ending elections but you don't have democracy, you have oligarchy.
