Given how there is still a large population who are unwilling to get vaccinated (~40%), why should it be on the taxpayers to financially support these individuals if they deliberately choose to not get vaccinated? As a result, the unvaccinated get sick, go to the ICU where medical expenses are high, and often will have private insurance/government pay for their expenses. In a single payer system, the government/people will cover these costs. There are little barriers to access these vaccines and there has been a surplus in supply of these vaccines. relative to demand. At this point, the unvaccinated are individuals who refuse to receive the vaccine due to conspiracy theories and unjustified personal reasons. Why should taxpayers support these individuals who make these bad decisions? The same argument can be applied to obesity and smoking. Why should taxpayers be responsible for the medical costs related to these issues, when there have been so much evidence and marketing against smoking/obesity? Thank you for the show. Really appreciate it. I am a long time M4A supporter, but I have recently been troubled by the bad decision making of people who follow the anti-vaccination trend.
Considering how low I set the bar for the Biden administration going into January, I have been surprised by what it has accomplished. Do you think that the 15 dollar minimum wage is being held back to be played as a trump card or trading chip in the inevitable infrastructure negotiations? I would think voters would really prefer it over free community college and the like.
