Who’s left to trust, is it time to give up?
In light of the disturbing and disappointing (and imho very credible) allegations against Andrew Callaghan, I feel like there’s no one left in public discourse to trust. It seems like whether if it’s mainstream or alternative media, bad faith disingenuous actors proliferate everywhere. The impression I get about the allegations against Callaghan is that his behavior was somewhat of an open secret. And if someone like him can rapidly rise to fame by pushing anti-establishment rhetoric and talking points, what does it potentially say about other prominent figures? Feeling pretty disillusioned. Reading and writing about politics
Reading and writing are my biggest hobbies, even if it’s just for myself during my solitary time alone. I stopped reading and writing about politics years ago because it wasn’t fulfilling and consuming politics was affecting my mental health and sense of purpose. Been thinking about trying it again though. Any advice on reading and craft writing when it comes to politics and news, how to be original and unique without regurgitating what prominent people have already said? Omnibus Spending Bill and the Inflation Distraction Act
Back when the Democrats were negotiating their infrastructure spending bill, I appreciated your emphasis on understanding what was actually in the bill rather than just focusing on the big numbers. I feel like the Omnibus Spending Bill that Congress just squeezed out deserves similar scrutiny. It's hard for me to see why that bill isn't just a glaring example of reckless spending and irresponsible governance. What's the argument in favor of these kinds of spending bills?
