Juul FDA Ban & Reprieve in Federal Court

Hey K&S! Long time fan, I haven't missed an episode since you went independent. Wondering if either of you have any thoughts on the recent FDA ban of Juul products (and the subsequent reprieve via the US district court of appeals for the district of columbia)? There are now only 3 FDA approved vapes on the marketplace (one owned by RR Reynolds, and the other a large tobacco retailer in japan, and NJOY). I wonder what you both think of this from a public health perspective, and a potential conflict of interest perspective as to why they're going after Juul specifically.

Kyle Kulinski

As two people who actively covered the news around the removal of the YouTube dislike button, and are aware of the addon extension showing dislikes, you have to see the insane ratio of dislikes videos get that feature kyle. It is honestly uncanny that none of your other content even comes close to being as disliked. The fact that Krystal and Kyle are in a relationship seems to be the only reason this is allowed to continue and is honestly kind of gross

Could a compromise 'codify Roe' pass the Senate? 2 Republicans already drafted their version; so that would be 53 already.

Do you think that an actual compromise bill to codify Roe could pass the Senate? Because that the Senate bill to 'codify Roe' that was voted on was a sham, because Dem's want to use this issue for the midterms. And that might work; but it does no good for all the women who will be effected by abortion bans in red states. What do I mean by 'a sham'? Here's a small part of the Women's Health Protection Act ((from https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/3755/text) : "(5) Reproductive justice seeks to address restrictions on reproductive health, including abortion, that perpetuate systems of oppression, lack of bodily autonomy, white supremacy, and anti-Black racism. This violent legacy has manifested in policies including enslavement, rape, and experimentation on Black women; forced sterilizations; medical experimentation on low-income women’s reproductive systems; and the forcible removal of Indigenous children." Does that really look like an attempt to pull in conservatives so it could actually get passed? The wording looks more like a deliberate attempt to make sure they can NOT vote for it. (and then the sheep-news proclaims 'Republicans block the bill to codify Roe'). Even if one might agree to all that (questionable; but still); why would that even be in the bill? It's NOT in Roe: so this is NOT even close to 'codifying Roe'. (and I won't get into the actual policy details... but just take a guess how precisely those follow Roe.). The truth is that there are a lot of conservatives that are OK with some kind of compromise: look at Europe, where compromises in almost every country 'find a line'; but most allow most early-term abortions; with various waiting periods, 'reason' exemptions; etc. Despite the media hype to the contrary, most conservatives understand the plight of women and the practicality of the morning-after and abortion pills; they just don't like the idea of late-term abortions, 'baby selection' abortions; etc. Which is why some Republicans drafted their own bill to codify Roe; basically using the 'viability' test: https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/3713/text If Democrats in the Senate made a real attempt at a compromise, both side might get on board and accept a compromise, knowing that laws can be changed as public sentiment changes; and that's very likely to get more pro-choice over time. But as usual, politics wins over the best interests of the people; and the pundits have a field day with their 'good vs evil' narratives on both sides.

Saager looks good

Saager, Do you ever feel slighted in the comments about your appearance? Krystal gets all the love on how lovely she looks (and she does), but no love for Saager. You should know you can wear the hell out of a suit, your glasses are dope, and your ties, DAMN. Jokes aside love the show keep sticking it to the man.

Tariffs

Saager, I'm confused by your Chinese tariff analysis, could you elaborate further? When the tariffs were instituted under Trump the imports cost more, but if they were dropped the imports would cost more again? I don't know jack about economics so maybe you can convince me how that works. Keep up the great work breaking points team!!
